New training course gets a grip on workplace violence
Sheffield based online training firm Sharp End Training will shortly be unveiling their latest training course "violence at work".
According to the British Trade Union Council (TUC); 1. One in five people at work are attacked or abused every year in the course of doing their job. 2. Every week people are abused, threatened and beaten up simply because people they have to deal with as part of their job turn violent. 3. Many receive major or minor injuries, but the psychological effects - stress, depression, even fear of work, can be even worse. A violent incident at a workplace can lead to minor inconvenience to service delivery or a major illness and hospitalisation of staff members and everything in between. The impact on the people involved of the incident and how their manager handles it can last a few hours or scar them for the rest of their lives. Some victims of violent incidents never work again. The TUC estimate that more than 3 million working days are lost each year and the associated costs of lost productivity, compensation & management time runs into millions of pounds. Many managers don't know how to cope or plan for these terrible events but this short course walks through the steps to take. Sharp End Training Director Jonathan Senior, who has himself worked in Benefit Offices, said "While you can't stop these events, a little planning and thought makes it much easier to deal with." "I know from experience that it's a lot easier to plan for a violent incident than clean up afterwards. This course is not about self defence or martial arts, but simple practical steps that can be taken to minimise risk" he added "In these difficult times, it is crucial that all managers have awareness of what to do and how to do it" The course is suitable all levels of staff and features full multimedia interaction and is online so there is nothing to download to the users PC. Even better, the course is available, for a limited period of time, completely free. For full details, go to www.sharp-end-training.co.uk/blog
